The NFL Must Be Aware of How COVID-19 and The Vaccine Can Affect Their Players

Vaccine Affects

Vaccine Affects. The Hall of Fame pre-season game went off without a hitch, and it is the first real sign that football season is officially back.  Players and coaches have been clamoring for this moment since February as they get another chance of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.  During most years in the NFL, injuries, experience, and weather conditions are the main culprits that stand in these teams’ way in pursuit of a championship.  This year, just like in 2020, will be hampered by the inevitable cases of COVID-19 that will occur during the season.

NFL coaches have done a good, if not spectacular, job at enlisting the help of health care professionals to encourage their players and staff to get one of the COVID-19 vaccines.  These vaccines are readily available to the players, and most of them have taken it upon themselves to get vaccinated for one reason or another.  In the minds of league officials, getting vaccinated is the most precautious way to avoid contracting COVID-19.  Vaccination is crucial because COVID-19 is constantly changing, such as the Delta variant, and needs to handle seriously.

For the most part, athletes have experienced less severe cases than those who might be older or dealing with health conditions that make them not equipped to fight off COVID-19.  Athletes, however, have had COVID-19 and have experienced different symptoms and outcomes after contracting the virus.

Players and coaches have talked in detail about periods of tiredness after contracting COVID-19, and it takes weeks to even months to feeling like themselves again.  Along with feeling tired, athletes have reported losing their sense of taste for weeks after contracting the virus.

The CDC and other health care officials have made it known that the vaccines make no alterations to the DNA. The goal of the vaccine is to decrease the severity of cases for those who get COVID-19.

The NFL has continued its efforts by preaching the importance of getting vaccinated to players and coaches league-wide.  While achieving 100% vaccination doesn’t seem feasible, at the moment, the closer they get, the better for all parties involved.  Having more players vaccinated will result in fewer cases around the league. That will lead to a better season for those who love to watch their teams compete for the Lombardi Trophy in February.
